Update 3
Wednesday, 21 October 1998.
Message as sent to Ewing's Sarcoma On-Line Support Group.
To All,
Matthew has been given the go ahead to try Topotecan, starting tomorrow 21st
October. As you can imagine we are so pleased that his oncologist at last
listened to us, (and lots of American Drs!) We know this drug may not work,
then again maybe it will, who can say, but at least we have got the chance
to at least try and save our child, some hope where there was none before.
Matthew is over the moon about it all, but scared too. He just doesn't want
to be too 'pukey' in case the Docs say it's too much for him to take. I
know he will fight all the harder now this is happening.
The day we were told he could have the Topo' was 'unreal' if you know what I
mean. There we were just thinking we were in for a stand-up fight when his
Dr tells us he could have it! Just like that! We had pretty much dominated
her phone lines though for days on end! Later that night Matthew just broke
down in tears and hugged me tight, saying all the while that he loved us and
couldn't tell us how glad he was to have us as his Mum and Dad! My Mother
was visiting at the time and she just burst into tears when he said that. I
couldn't even speak in case I totally broke down, I just hugged him closer
and tighter!
We hope all is well with all of you. Love to All.
Karen, Robert, Anneka & Matthew.
PLEASE NOTE!
